Brief History of the Association :
All India Science Teachers’ Association, the first of its kind in India, was formed in 1956 in Summer Hills of Shimla, HP state by the science teachers of all levels, scientists and officers associated with Science Institutes of India. The objective of the association was to lend voluntary services for the professional growth of science teachers of schools, development of science curricula related to newly introduced 11 class higher secondary education, development of teaching learning materials and evaluation system. To intensify the activities of the association regional chapters were opened in different states of our country. As a result, All India Science Teachers’ Association, West Bengal (AISTA, WB) emerged in 1976 with the patronage of all people interested in science education across WB. This year almost coincided with the year of introduction of new curriculum of science education as per 10+2+3 educational structure all over India. AISTA,WB followed the legacy of activities of its all India parent body and also introduced some activities in science directly involving the students from standard III to XII .
Information about SATST, PTEE, Essay Tests, Quest & Extempore Talks
- SATST, PTEE and Essay competitions are held every year in the last week of August/First week of September simultaneously in the different approved centers of AISTA, WB on a Sunday.
- SATST is held for standards III to X, both in English and Bengali media according to the Science and Mathematics syllabi of WB Boards of Education.
- Essay tests are held on Environmental issues/awareness.
- Evaluated Answer sheets for SATST are sent to the centres for perusal of the candidates. Best 10 candidates of VIII & IX have to subsequently appear in an oral test at the time of annual conference.
- Letter grades based on percentile ranks are awarded to the top 20% candidates of PTEE, SATST and Essay competitions.
- Final round of ex tempore talks and quests are held on the dates of annual conference.
- State level &District levels top candidates are awarded different prizes in the annual Conference of AISTA, WB. Centre- level top candidates are awarded prizes from the respective centre, later on.
